Structured into the following modules:
The integrated course aims for students to acquire:
1) Knowledge and ability to understand: a thorough knowledge of the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis of diseases of the oro-maxillofacial district and systemic diseases that may involve the oral district that have relevance to the profession of speech therapy, the basic principles of medical statistics, anthropological thinking, professional ethics, knowledge of the processes of professionalization of speech therapy, thorough knowledge of the fundamental values, principles, code of ethics and ethics, professional and decision-making responsibilities; knowledge of health care and business organization.
2) Applied knowledge and comprehension skills: acquiring the theoretical basis to know how to use and read data from the main diagnostic, instrumental and laboratory examinations, and intra- and extra-oral objective examination to solve clinical cases of oral, dermatological and infectious interest; ability to assume deontologically and ethically grounded professional attitudes in different care settings.
3) Autonomy of judgment, acquiring one's own integrated view of oral cavity pathologies of speech-language pathology interest, understanding the relational and communicational dynamics occurring in the context of teamwork, the correct interpretation of statistical data, Describing the evaluation and treatment of dysfunctional swallowing.
4) Communication skills, becoming accustomed to exposition, in the classroom, of concepts required by the lecturer, in a stimulating and interactive teaching environment. Students will always be urged to keep in mind the need for scientifically rigorous exposition and communication with colleagues and simple, yet comprehensive, with patients and their families. They will be stimulated to express themselves in correct and essential language describing diagnostic and therapeutic, relational and organizational choices.
5) Ability to learn: during face-to-face lectures, reference will mainly be made to the recommended texts, but students will be urged to consult several of them, citing the sources of the information presented. The topics covered will always be approached from different points of view so that the student can form a clear and complete opinion.

ANTHROPOLOGY FOR THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS
1.Introduction to anthropology.Concepts and methods of anthropology. Currents of ethnological thought. Introductory part related to the birth of the discipline.2.Identity. Culture. Ethnocentrism. Relativism.
Analysis of terms fundamental to the discipline. Group work to settle the concepts learned.
3.Critical-Interpretive Approach in Medical Anthropology.
Introduction to Medical Anthropology. The study of the concepts of health, wellness and illness and how they are experienced in each socio-cultural context.
4.Individual body. Social body. Political body.
Analysis of the text by Margaret Lock and Nancy Scheper-Hughes, a text intended to expose the naturalizing claims that culture operates on bodily states. How Cartesian dualism (separation of mind and body), a quintessential Western concept, affected the emergence of biomedicine and the Western model of care.
5.Philosophy of care
Starting with Luigina Mortari's text, Philosophy of Care, the concept of care is investigated through the phenomenological method. It highlights the centrality of caring as a measure of the meaning of experience.
6.Levels of misunderstanding between health personnel and the foreign patient.
Strategies for making cross-cultural dialogue a resource. Caring for the other requires rethinking one's relational modes of intervention.Investigation of the different levels of misunderstanding (prelinguistic, linguistic, metalinguistic, cultural, metacultural). The expectations and prejudices of the physician and those of the foreign patient.
ODONTOSTOMATOLOGIC PATHOLOGIES
- Macroscopic and Microscopic Anatomy of the Oral Cord
- Malformations of the Orofacial District
- Congenital Alterations and Disorders of Tongue Growth
- Malocclusions
- Oral breathing and spoiled habits
- Correlation between malocclusions and pediatric diseases
- SQUAMOSOUS CARCINOMA OF THE ORAL CABLE
- Aesthetic-functional rehabilitation of the oral cavity after demolition surgery
Face-to-face lesson, multimedia viewing and brainstorming, case presentation and guided discussion
Lessons will be recorded and stored on Teams platform.
Integrated course registration involves the weighted average, based on CFUs, of the individual courses that make up the course.
Individual examinations are based on knowledge of the entire course syllabus.
Verification of knowledge learned will be carried out through an oral examination for the modules of odontostomatologic pathology and speech therapy of odontostomatologic pathology, while of a written examination (multiple-choice quizzes) for the module of anthropology for health professions, statistics for research and deontology, in a group work with verbal exposition for the module of communication and teamwork.
The final exam grade for the integrated course is derived from the weighted average, thus weighted on the CFUs of each module, obtained in the individual subtests. For the purpose of defining the average, any honors obtained in the partial tests are given the value of 1 point, i.e., the grade of 30 and honors in the partial tests corresponds numerically to the score of 31. In order to award honors to the final exam grade, it will be necessary that the weighted average obtained by the student in the partial tests related to the various modules is >30.5.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
- Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): excellent knowledge of the topics, excellent language property, excellent analytical ability; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of topics, remarkable language property, good analytical ability; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Good (24-26): good grasp of the main topics, fair ownership of language; the student shows adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main topics of the teaching, although he/she possesses the fundamental knowledge of them; however, he/she shows satisfactory properties of language and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main topics of the teaching and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.- Insufficient: the student does not possess acceptable knowledge of the contents of the different topics of the program.
This course explores topics closely related to one or more goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs)
